Recycle your printer cartridges
April 26th, 2006 by trinatuneYou may have already seen Richard Branson on the TV or pictured on a bus add saying: “don’t throw your printer cartridges away, throw them Planet Ark’s way.” This is the latest slogan for Planet Ark’s printer recycling program.
According to the organisation, Australians throw away more than 18 million printer cartridges every year. Around 80 per cent of these end up in landfill.
It is pretty easy to recycle them. Just place your unwanted cartridges in ˜Cartridges 4 Planet Ark” bins at Post, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Tandy, Dick Smith Electronics or PowerHouse retail outlets.
Another option is to go for refillable printer cartridges. I use the i PRiNT inkjet cartridge refill kit. Refilling cartridges can be a messy job because you need to use a syringe to squirt the ink into the cartridge (have plenty of paper towels on hand). It gets easier after a few attempts ;-). It is well worth it though because it really saves money and reuses those pesky little printer cartridges.

This is great! I think everyone should support the concept of recycling their plastic waste. I mean, our planet is calling for our help here and it’s so good to have companies like this, even though i know they make money from collecting all the ink and toners we dump. It’s a perfect Win-Win situation anyway.
We get to help the environment by dumping our printer cartridges to them, they make money by choosing the quality ones and then supplying them to companies, so that they can make remanufactured inkjet and toner cartridges. The ones we all see in the market.
But then, at the end of the day, it is them that are providing the resources to collect these, so i guess they deserve it. As for us, we get to help our planet and strive to at least maintain a healty environment. This is perfect!
