Green is the new black

December 3rd, 2006 by trinatune

g_magazine_th.jpgIf the latest green publishing launches are anything to go by, it seems the green consumer market is becoming a larger and trendier demographic in Australia.

The bi-monthly G magazine, launched in November, touts itself as Australia’s first green living magazine.

At first I thought it might be a similar type of magazine to the now defunct Simply Living magazine, which folded in the 90s. But it seems to have a slightly different audience.

The hippy, mother earth stereotype of green consumers has given way to a more upbeat and chic feel.

In the words of the magazine: “G is a glossy and stylish guide to green living in the 21st century: an upscale, environmentally-friendly, consumer guide for people who want to reduce their impact on the planet but don’t want to compromise on quality of life.”

It’s an interesting tact and one that will hopefully take important issues like sustainability and climate change into the mainstream.

G is available at newsagents and Coles supermarkets for $5. Some of the topics this January/February issue focuses on are: clean energy, climate change and Australian wine growing, renovating for sustainability and ethical companies.

The other recent green launch is the Green Pages Australia guide. The magazine-guide bills itself as the first national directory of environmentally sustainable products and services. It’s available in two editions: business and lifestyle and you can buy both for $10 when you purchase them online.
